BlackBerry Bold Review: Bold, Beautiful and Smart

Blackberry Bold

As always, we managed to get our hands on the BlackBerry Bold this Christmas season and we thought it would be worthwhile to review it. RIM’s new phone entered the markets in complete rage and presented its sleek form and smart features that are ideal for business use. So here’s presenting a detailed review on this stylish bold phone which gets adored by many businessmen and professionals.

For easy readability, we have segregated the review depending on the features of the BlackBerry Bold.

Looks and Design:

At the first look, the phone looks sleek and wrapped with elegance and style. The phone’s large screen can fool anyone to it to be a touch-screen phone, but it isn’t touch-screen. Bearing the BlackBerry logo, the Bold presents the traditional QWERTY keypad that lets one use the email facility efficiently. The back of the phone gets treated with leather finish that gives it a luxurious and posh feel. The keypad may look glossy and good, but it could have done better if the keys were a little more spaced out, as we tend to press 2 buttons with one finger touch. The soft curved edges make it look trendier in tandem to its predecessors. The LCD display offers half VGA 480 x 320 pixel resolution. The screen of the phone happens to be the major attraction of the phone.

Email, Outlook, Office features:

The phone is specifically designed to cater to the ones dealing in business and professionals. The phone is apt to use it for communications such as email and outlook synchronization. Manage your tasks easily via the phone’s task manager and calendar options. The Bold lets you connect to your work easily via its applications such as ‘Word To Go’, ‘Sheet To Go’ and ‘Slideshow To Go’. The phone disappointed us with one drawback where the phone supports PDF and RTF files only as attachments and it cannot be accessed standalone.

Camera, Video Recording and Music:

It is usually assumed that a Business phone doesn’t need a camera or video recording facilities. But lets keep the notion at bay as today’s professionals are on a look out for more and more features that fit on to their one single device. The 2 megapixel camera has the capacity to click crisp pictures. Don’t be fooled by its professional looks as the BlackBerry Bold also supports excellent multimedia features and the phone shows off its video-recording capabilities.

While you are busy clicking away, the Bold also has the capacity to entertain you with its Media Player and the music playback is quite neat.

Connectivity:

If a phone does not support connectivity features such as Bluetooth, WiFi, etc, the phone is sure to get a title of ‘Outdated’. That’s Right! We all know the importance of connectivity features such as Bluetooth or USB connectivity, the BlackBerry Bold is impressive in terms of connectivity. Apart from the usual Bluetooth and USB connectivity, the phone also supports WiFi and features a built-in GPS facility.

Miscellaneous Features:

Forget the old notions about the professional business phones which used to look bulky, huge and ugly. It’s been quite a long time that even business phones have started flaunting off their style and charisma. The phone’s glossy looks and widescreen sure attracts a lot of attention. Apart from the style quotient, the battery life also seems quite satisfactory. The phone is also great for multimedia use; this is one fact that surprised us. The phone overall is a smart package of business applications teamed with crisp style and great taste.

To conclude, its salient features include a 114mm x 66mm x 155 in size and 136 g in weight. The phone’s QWERTY backlit Keyboard with Trackball is a great attraction teamed with its Half VGA 480 x 320 pixel resolution TFT LCD display which features backlighting, light sensing and customizable font size. The BlackBerry phone also packs in a 3.5mm stereo headset, built-in microphone, speakerphone, mono-stereo headset and hands free. Along with such features, the phone can entertain well with its Video Recording and Media Player capabilities and get quick access with the phone’s built-in GPS and Wi-Fi support.

Its time for a rating to be given and we rate the BlackBerry Bold a smart 8 out of 10.
