AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile offer Wireless Network in Subways of US

Mobile Phone Coverage In the Subway

Since mobile phones have become a part and parcel of everyone’s life, there has been an improvement in the network coverage which enables users to receive their calls almost every where.

Now calls can be made even from flights as Air France has offered mobile service in international flights and now people in the US can avail a mobile phone service in train tunnels.

A wireless service will be made available in train tunnels connecting covering few stations by AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile network operators for the people’s convenience.

This service will extend through tunnels between stations and out to the tunnel entrance. However, the network does not have coverage everywhere as people tend to loose their call while walking through the tunnels which connect two platforms together.

Distributed antenna system (DAS) charge a fee to cellular providers, some of which include AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless, while the subway system operators also get a part of the amount. InSite has agreed to pay the T $4 million over 15 years for the right to build the system and lease it to network providers.

According to Christopher Davis, president of InSite Wireless the tunnel network expansion depends on cellular companies.

But for Sprint/Nextel, the remaining major wireless service providers have not shown much interest in the project added Davis.
