AT&T has announced two new smartphones in its line-up this year, the HTC Vivid along with the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. Both these devices will operate on the Android mobile platform and are the first couple from the network carrier to be 4G LTE enabled.
With an HTC Sense user interface enhancing the possibilities of the Android OS, the HTC Vivid offers a better and faster web browsing experience. The 4.5-inch qHD touchscreen displays content in a resolution of 540 x 960p. Multitasking is supported by a 1.2GHz processor, while the Sense technology now sports some new features like a customizable active lock screen and more. The 8MP camera is equipped with an f2.2 28mm wide angle lens and records 1080p HD videos, while there’s 16GB hoarding space that’s expandable by up to 32GB.
“The two LTE-powered superphones will be our 20th and 21st Android devices in 2011, adding to an outstanding year of Android success,” expressed David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “We’ve far exceeded our commitment to offer 12 new Android devices this year –now including our first 4G LTE smartphones. We’re delivering an incredible amount of innovation to our customers, which is a huge reason why more than half our post-paid subscribers are using a smartphone.”
Accompanying the Vivid to exploit AT&T’s 4G LTE services is the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. The key specifications of the Skyrocket include a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen with a display of 800 x 480p, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Gingerbread version 2.3.5, and more. While the external memory is expandable up to 32GB by means of a microSD card, this handset offers an internal memory of 16GB. The rear facing 8MP camera is supported by a 2MP secondary one for the purpose of video calling.
Starting November 6, both these devices will be made available in AT&T retail stores. The HTC Vivid price is $199.99 with a two-year agreement, while the Samsung Galaxy S II price tag reads $249.99 under the same T&C.
