Android users can now check in with Google Latitude

Google Latitude Check-in

Two years back Google provided users with the ability to track their friends’ movements by taking advantage of the incredibly useful Latitude feature. Stretching the functionality level even further, Google now enables users to check in with Google Latitude for Android.

According to the official Google Mobile blog, users can now facilely connect a particular location to a real place by checking in there using Latitude. The most recently offered functionality will now enable users to add context to the location, like captions to a photo. But, users can still take advantage of the Latitude feature in order to automatically update and share their location.

Certain new twists have been added to checking in as well. Google now brings notifications which let users turn on check-in notifications in Latitude’s settings and receive a notification to check in at a nearby place once they arrive. Using automatic check-ins, users can choose to automatically check in at specific places they designate.

Apart from this, users can talk to their friends or finish the bagel without fumbling their mobile device. Interestingly, once users leave, Latitude automatically checks them out of places so friends aren’t left guessing if they’re still there. Users can further check in at their favorite spot to earn special status there.

The latest Google Maps can now be downloaded from Android Market and users can then join Latitude from the main menu. The application for iPhone is also expected to get updated pretty soon.
