Android 2.2 update now for Samsung Acclaim

Android 2.2 Samsung AcclaimThe Samsung Acclaim Android smartphone was released by U.S. Cellular in the mid of last year amidst much fanfare. But the wait was long for those yearning an upgraded version of Android 2.2 better known as Froyo on this Samsung handset. U.S. Cellular ends the anticipation by officially announcing the release of Android 2.2 for the Samsung Acclaim. It is a 102MB update for which users will have to cable in their device as it sadly cannot be done over-the-air.

Android 2.2 presents many new kosher features for users to explore and benefit from. Microsoft Exchange support facilitates full integration of Microsoft Exchange (e-mail & calendar). With its portable Hotspot attribute as many as 5-9 users on U.S. Cellular’s network through Mobile Hotspot can share a 3G Web connection. Such an arrangement is most favorable in an office setting where many teams need web connection. But this feature requires a tethering plan.

Adobe Flash 10.1 support is undoubtedly a major feature of Android 2.2 particularly for Google’s mobile platform. This feature is said to make the user’s task of accessing vast majority of videos and games on the web easier. But there is a tiny glitch to it; certain handsets will not support Adobe Flash 10.1. Additionally for the users to browse through more apps, the Android Market Updates feature comes in very handy. This feature saves applications to the microSD card on the device and auto-updates all the applications.

The Android 2.2 update is now live for Samsung Acclaim users to download and install at the official U.S. Cellular website.
