The recent introduction of partial multitouch support for Motorola Droid via Google Maps 3.4 has been followed up with some more good news for the aforesaid handset’s owners. Apparently, Motorola Droid’s new Android 2.1 update will allow for multitouch web browser accommodation.

The story has been leaked from Verizon’s testing department according to Engadget. The update is expected to be engineered around Android 2.1, with the build being cited as 2.1 version 1. Google Goggles may come pre-installed with it though there don’t seem to be active wallpaper inclusions.

Apart from that news and weather widgets like those featured on the Nexus One handset will be offered with this update. Expect the same homescreen as the one extended by 2.0.1 since this forthcoming upgrade gives the 3D grid of app icons found on the Nexus One a miss.

Motorola Droid owners can now stop throwing Nexus One users envious glances since the upcoming update is anticipated to lend the former more than a handful of features available on the latter device.
