AWS blacks out leaving Instagram and Vine users upset

It looks like many of the famous websites have Amazon Web Services to thank for witnessing a fate similar to that of Google. Several hours ago, the server slowed down leading into an outage of Instagram, Vine and Airbnb. This news comes only a week after Amazon itself recorded a downtime, facing a $5 million loss in the process.

Other portals to be affected by this hiccup include Netflix and IFTTT. The consequences of these websites’ downtime reflected on Twitter wherein various users voiced their frustration. The first acceptance came from Instagram which tweeted that the root of this trouble had been detected and they have begun working on it.

Vine chose to acknowledge the issue in a similar fashion an hour or so after the Facebook-owned company confirmed the disruptions. The news was also authenticated by Airbnb which claimed to be among many other sites and apps facing similar issues. From what we could gather through the Amazon Web Service Health Dashboard, its data center located in North Virginia had something to do with this mess.

It took the company approximately five hours to narrow down the root cause and come up with a solution for the same. And in the online world, five hours of downtime could spell major losses, especially since social networking sites such as Instagram which records 45 million pictures a day, are involved.

With the Amazon Web Services server problem cured, we see portals returning to their original positions. In other news, the successors of the Kindle Fire HD are said to be in the works and were recently spotted on GFX Benchmark results.
