Amazon allows Kindle Fire HD owners to ditch ‘Special Offers’ for $15

For those who wish to do away with the Special Offers on their Kindle Fire HD, the company has announced a $15 opt-out option that will permanently stop commercials from appearing. What’s more, the deal requires only a one-time payment which can be carried out from the tablet itself.

According to TechCrunch, the offer removes ads that are to feature on the lock screen and the ones that will show up on the lower part of the interface. Prior to this, the company introduced a similar scheme for the e-ink Kindle at $30. The device in question is currently up for pre-order on the company’s official retail store in a 7-inch and 8.9-inch option that also comes in a 4G LTE version.

“We know from our Kindle reader line that customers love our special offers and very few people choose to opt out. We’re happy to offer customers the choice,” states an Amazon spokesperson.

The 7-inch model packs in an HD anti-glare display, dual-driver stereo speakers, the Dolby Audio technology and a 1.2GHz dual core processor with an Imagination PowerVR graphics core. The 8.9-inch slate sports a FHD touch panel and a 1.5GHz dual core processor. Both devices will be available in memory choices of 16GB and 32GB.

Additionally, the 4G LTE variant can be picked with storage options of up to 32GB or 64GB. A few important features introduced by the company include Whispersync for Voice, Movies, Books and Games as well as X-Ray for Textbooks, Books and Movies. Other than that, apps like Netflix, HBO and Angry Birds Space are thrown into the mix.
