Airtel and Affle introduces SMS2.0 in India

Airtel and Affle SMS2.0 Airtel and Affle have announced to launch SMS2.0, which is considered as the world’s first upgrade to SMS. Affle is the inventor of this technology.

SMS2.0 will enable an interactive and non-intrusive platform on mobile phones delivering enhanced messaging features. The SMS 2.0 allows messaging, content, and contextual advertising in default SMS application on the users’ mobile handset.

In simple words, SMS2.0 will allow Airtel subscribers to personalize their text messages with a variety of text and background colors and exciting emoticons.

Sanjay Gupta, Chief Marketing Officer, Mobile Services, Airtel, said, “Trends indicate that youth and young professionals are more active users of messaging. SMS2.0 represents a huge opportunity for Airtel to differentiate itself and further gain both mind-share and market-share in these segments.”

He added, “This service will open up an entirely new set of options that will enrich the messaging experience of our customers. Our endevour will be to continue to deliver new innovative services that not only simplify the communication experience of all Airtel users but also add more value to them.”

The SMS2.0 application is available for free for Airtel subscribers. They can download the application by simply sending a text message “SMS2” to 543210. Airtel said that the SMS charges will remain unchanged and according to the existing mobile plan of the subscriber.
