Google’s Android operating system is quite popular in the mobile arena. The Android Developers page reports that 61.3 percent of all Android-based devices run on Android 2.2 Froyo.

Google conducted a study wherein data was complied of the number of Android devices that accessed Android Market over a 14-day period which ended on March 15. Froyo was followed by Android 2.1 Eclair with 29.0 percent share. Android 1.6 Donut and Android 1.5 Cupcake occupied 4.8 percent and 3.0 percent of the Android device, respectively.

As of now, the trend is apparently playing into Froyo’s favor. In the month of January, the Android developer page had pointed out that Android 2.2 had 51.8 percent market share, while Android 2.1 accounted for 35.2 percent.

Irrespective of which version is most popular, Android is now being most preferred in the smartphone sector.
