After the much hyped Captivate, Fascinate, Epic 4G, and others we see a new Samsung handset making news for all the right reasons. MetroPCS Communications introduces the Samsung Craft, touted to be the first ‘commercially available 4G LTE-enabled handset from Samsung’. Along with this new device, the company launches its first commercial 4G LTE services for which monthly plans begin at $55.

The service has been released for the denizens of Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW). The company plans to expand its services into additional major metropolitan areas in the near future. The 4G LTE service comes packaged with monthly plans for $55 or $60 that include text, talk, and 4G usage which at first will be on an unlimited basis.

“MetroPCS will continue to expand 4G LTE network coverage into all of our markets through 2011 to offer unmatched value in 4G LTE services on a no-contract basis for all of our customers,” stated Roger D. Linquist, president, CEO and chairman of MetroPCS. “The launch of our 4G LTE network in the metroplex is yet another milestone in our expansion and our vision of the Internet going mobile.”

“With the launch of our 4G LTE service and the Samsung Craft, MetroPCS brings everything together at our customers’ fingertips to do more with the mobile Internet every day, whether they’re accessing social networks, finding the best route to work, catching the latest hit TV shows, or downloading and sharing music, photos and videos,” commented Tracy Lange, vice president and general manager of MetroPCS Dallas.

The Samsung Craft will retail in DFW metropolitan area stores and on the web. Adorning a 3.3 inch AMOLED touchscreen, this Wi-Fi enabled beauty comes loaded with a 2GB microSD housing Paramount Pictures’ Star Trek. The device equips a 3.2 megapixel camera featuring flash and camcorder. Fitted with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard the handset works on Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

The company’s 4G LTE network will encompass most of its existing CDMA network footprint in DFW. The Samsung Craft retails with a price tag of $299 excluding tax, after paying a $50 instant rebate. It will initially be offered in DFW’s retail stores and online.
