Idea teams up with Opera and Quickr to offer daily 10MB data free daily

Idea has inked a deal Quickr and Opera Software to offer free data access to its customers across India via means of sponsored web passes. With this promotion, users will be entitled to 10MB of non-chargeable usage and the operator will be providing it on a daily basis.

The web passes are being sponsored by Quickr and users will be able to activate them through the Opera Mini web browser app by selecting the Idea Web Pass tab followed by Free Internet by Quikr (10MB) option from the speed dial interface. The main goal of providing cost-free data usage is to get more users online through their smartphones and feature handsets.

Now, 10MB of free data isn’t much, but you should be able to access Facebook, Twitter and other sites on multiple occasions owing to Opera Mini’s 90% data compression technology which reduces the size of web pages in the cloud. For the curious few, this free usage will most likely be on 2G and the reason is pretty obvious.

Idea’s web pass deal is basically a substitute to monthly plans. Currently, there are three subscriptions available which offer daily net usage for Rs 8 or weekly at Rs 30 and Facebook access only for several days for Rs 7. In other news, Idea has expanded its 3G services to Punjab and it plans to bring the same network to Delhi as well, by 2015.

The sponsored web pass from Quickr and Opera Software are being provided to over 137 million Idea customers in India.
