Flipkart planning to soon start selling its own tablet under the DigiFlip brand

Flipkart is apparently preparing to launch its own tablet in the near future which could be a very huge step for the site that’s been making waves in the e-commerce sector since early this year. It is said that the tablet range will bear the DigiFlip branding but we’ve heard nothing official about it as of now.

In order to compete with Amazon India, Flipkart might feel the need to introduce an eReader of its own. This, coupled with the fact that it already has an established eBook store could mean that the upcoming tablet will be marketed as a Kindle alternative.

The Economic Times is reporting that this tablet will feature the DigiFlip branding that’s already present on Flipkart’s own headphones, speakers and other products that are being sold through its portal. In order to compete better in the Indian market, this supposed slate from the e-commerce giant is bound to fall in the affordable category.

Flipkart has been on a roll this year; it has managed to score exclusivity on all three Motorola Moto smartphones that are out right now, whereas it’s also the sole seller of many other products in the country. The site recently purchased online fashion store Myntra.com for the whopping sum of around Rs 2,000 crore.

Flipkart has also launched a new subscription based premium service named Flipkart First which offers free shipping, in-a-day delivery, same-day delivery and priority customer service in exchange of just Rs 500 per year. If the online store does launch a tablet of its own, it’ll be interesting to see how the market receives it.
