With BBM Protected, BlackBerry is trying to appeal to the its all-important and largest customer base consisting of government, insurance and banking customers. This first addition to the company’s eBBM suite has arrived earlier than promised for BBOS 6.0 and later as well as for BlackBerry 10 (Regulated mode) handsets.
BBM Protected makes use of the FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic library and is the only instant messaging app to do so. This helps its users securely send messages to their colleagues without worrying about privacy breaches. BBM Protected moreover, won’t just be limited to the above mentioned platforms. BlackBerry has also announced plans to release it for the Balance version of BB 10 as well for Android and iOS.
