BBM Protected unveils encrypted messaging for business users

With BBM Protected, BlackBerry is trying to appeal to the its all-important and largest customer base consisting of government, insurance and banking customers. This first addition to the company’s eBBM suite has arrived earlier than promised for BBOS 6.0 and later as well as for BlackBerry 10 (Regulated mode) handsets.

BBM Protected makes use of the FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic library and is the only instant messaging app to do so. This helps its users securely send messages to their colleagues without worrying about privacy breaches. Zekeria Oezdemir, who’s the technical director of NovaLink has hailed this release, calling BBM Protected the ‘ideal solution’ for banking and insurance customers who are experiencing increased security needs.

This utility enables employees to make use of the same app to securely send messages to and share content with colleagues inside the company. And that’s not all; BBM Protected users needn’t be from the same company in order to chat with one another, as they can easily chat securely with others using the same application regardless of them being on different BES servers.

BlackBerry’s fresh introduction is part of the eBBM Suite, a business-focused package aimed at marrying the ‘convenience and usability’ of its Messenger app with the additional security and compliance needed by enterprise customers. This suite is supposed to receive a number of such additions this year.

BBM Protected moreover, won’t just be limited to the above mentioned platforms. BlackBerry has also announced plans to release it for the Balance version of BB 10 as well for Android and iOS.
