There is nothing as pleasant as speculations getting official confirmation and this time around, it’s about the next Samsung phone or the Galaxy S3, being embedded with a 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad chip. The processor claims to reduce power consumption by 20 percent as well as have more muscle in comparison to the 45nm process-based Exynos 4 Dual.
Taking cues from the quad core ARM Cortex A9 architecture, it employs HKMG low-power process technology and aims to enhance the 3D gaming, video editing as well as multi-tasking experience owing to the multiple cores. Sporting a 12mm X 12mm X 1.37mm form factor, it is pin-to-pin compatible with the Exynos 4 Dual and also features an HDMI 1.4 interface.
“The quad-core processor offers phenomenal multitasking abilities surpassing any single or dual application process or. Since all the cores must share a single battery, the power management and efficiency in the limited battery capacity are indispensable for mobile computing devices,” comments Taehoon Kim, vice president of System LSI marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics. “Given the diverse functionalities consumers are demanding from their mobile devices today, the Exynos 4 Quad meets those high-performance needs while keeping power consumption very low.”
Manufacturers shouldn’t find it hard to drop the processor into their device design plans considering its compatibility with the Exynos 4 Dual. The chip is replete with a hardware codec engine that’s built to deliver 1080p resolution video recording and playback too. It is not only expected to power up the next Galaxy smartphone, but may also be seen embedded within more phones and tablets in the future.
The 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad chip that is said to fuel the Samsung Galaxy S3 or whatever else it may be called, has already hit the production line.
