Xiaomi Mi Water Purifier could launch in Indian soon, hints company VP

The Xiaomi Mi Water Purifier, the company’s latest addition to its connected ecosystem of devices, could be coming to India earlier than you think. It was launched last week and might make its way to the country soon, according to the company’s Vice President, Hugo Barra.

He stated in a Facebook post that he would love to release the Xiaomi Mi Water Purifier here. The gadget has been branded as a smart device because it can be connected to a smartphone and used to keep track of purity levels in real time, even sending an alert when a filter requires changing. Xiaomi claims it can filter 8 times faster than other products and can process 400 gallons of water in a day.

Xiaomi developed the purifier in partnership with Yunmi Technology. The device uses reverse osmosis to output water that is supposedly of bottled water quality. It possesses 4 filters; a cotton filter used for removing impurities such as sediment or rust, 2 coconut carbon filters to eliminate bad odors along with discoloration, and a RO membrane to get rid of bacteria and heavy metals.

The company has implemented a compact and portable design for the machine. It measures 205 x 260 x 410mm, with Xiaomi boasting its base is smaller than an A4-sized paper. The device is part of the manufacturer’s effort to create a Mi home network based around interconnected gadgets controlled by a smartphone.

Xiaomi has launched various devices to include in that system, such as the Mi TV, the Li-Ning Smart Shoes and the Mi Band, and is planning to release many more in the future. It’s probably relying on its rabid fan base to trust the brand no matter what it sells, even something as mundane as a water purifier.

There’s no Indian price tag for the Mi Water Purifier yet, but the device costs 1299 Yuan (roughly Rs 13000) in China.
