Widgets arriving on Bolt mobile browser

Widget Bolt Mobile BrowserMobile users familiar with the Bolt mobile browser will now be able to use the internet all the more effectively. Bitstream Inc has declared the upcoming launch of its Bolt mobile browser which is all set to encompass the facility to run Web applications aka widgets.

The Bolt is a web browser that can function on every kind of handset. The inclusion of Web apps may provide Bolt users with augmented functionality on their devices. The new Bolt Widgets facility is expected be rolled out in beta as part of the upcoming 1.7 version of Bolt.

Sampo Kaasila, vice president of research and development at Bitstream, commented, “As many of the recent mobile and wireless trade shows have demonstrated, mobile applications are part of the mainstream mobile experience. However, the vast majority of phones in use today are ‘feature phones’ not smartphones. Unfortunately for the users of these billions of feature phones, it isn’t easy to find, install and run mobile applications. By adding Web apps to Bolt, Bitstream is not only improving the usability of our mobile browser, we are also making it possible for literally billions of people to partake in the mobile apps revolution.”

Apparently, Bolt is already compatible with website-based applications written in Ajax, Javascript and other Web programming languages like the Facebook game Mafia Wars and Google Docs. The new Web apps can be loaded promptly in Bolt and therefore may load and run even quicker. Bolt users can find out, choose and mount particular applications via the Bolt Widget Gallery. Bolt can exhibit an iconic record of all installed apps, thereby enabling users to swiftly discover and utilize them directly in Bolt.

At its release, Bitstream can encompass a primary set of sample applications accessible in its Beta Widget Gallery. Bolt Web applications are apparently written as usual W3C widgets, a standard in addition to broad industry support.

Bitstream is all set to unveil its new version of Bolt to OEMs and carriers at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 15, 2010.
