Tata logo In this day and age owning a BlackBerry has become the norm of the day for most professionals. Thus, most telecom operators in India and around the world are offering the smart phone’s services on their network. But, Tata Teleservices has said that it not been allowed to offer this advanced data and voice service in India.

BlackBerry is a patented service that was developed by Canadian firm RIM. This smart phone allows users to access emails on their phones.

Tata Teleservices has said that it has not been allowed to offer BlackBerry services in eth country because of reservations the Home Ministry.

According to Anil Sardana, Managing Director of TTSL, “We have been told that the BlackBerry service does not have scope for lawful interception, may be because it does not have a server in India and it may be difficult to monitor the content.”

“All value-added services have to have prior approval of the government to ensure that they have lawful interception,” added Sardana when asked whether prior permission from the government was needed to launch BlackBerry services.

“In fact, we are surprised that whereas all other operators are offering this service, we have not been allowed,” he added.

As of now, Tata Teleservices has submitted all the facts to the Department of Telecom, hoping to get the decision that rules in their favor.
