Sony Xperia ion Ice Cream Sandwich update to roll out next week

Owners of the Sony Xperia ion should be pleased to know that the smartphone has shown up on the Ice Cream Sandwich update list with roll out scheduled for next week. However, there aren’t any concrete details on the actual release date.

The handset in question is certainly receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, says Ubergizmo that has dug up the news via a Twitter post on the official RogersBuzz account. As per the report, the update will be sent off sometime next week. However, it could be limited to a specific country, which in this case is Canada.

For those new to the handset, it went global back in June with a 4.55-inch scratch-resistant TFT touch panel that renders visuals in a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The device measures 5.2” x 2.7” x 0.4” in dimensions and weighs not more than 5.1 ounces. The global version of the smartphone runs on the Google Android 2.3 platform powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 dual core processor that ticks at 1.5GHz.

Drenched in black, the device provides a 12.1MP AF rear-facing camera with an LED flash in tow. This snapper is capable of capturing images and recording videos at 16x digital zoom. On the memory front, the smartphone packs in 13.2GB of built-in storage for hording content. Users will have 12 hours of music playback, 10 hours of talktime or 400 hours of standby on a single charge.
