Micromax, Aircel and MediaTek ink partnership deal

Micromax, Aircel and MediaTek have partnered over a deal which will see the mobile manufacturer launching devices with MediaTek processors and Aircel data plans on offer. The first four devices to come with some extra helpings from the network carrier include the MMX 377G, A090, X070 and Funbook Mini 410i.

The MMX 377G is a 3G dongle from Micromax. Aircel subscribers are eligible to receive 2GB of data per month for 3 months and then twice the value of the recharge packs they pay for over the next 3 months – all this at a small fee of Rs 141. Those with data enabled feature phones from Micromax can get 500MB of data per month over 90 days, local calling at 1.2 paise/2 seconds, 1.2 paise/second of STD calling and Rs 10,000 worth of WAP content.

Smartphones and tablets will arrive bundled with 1GB data per month over 3 months, WAP content valued at Rs 10,000, 1.2 paise/second of STD calling and half that rate when making local calls as well as access to Popkorn TV App Free. Though Micromax also uses Snapdragon chipsets for some of its devices, the company’s cheaper products generally embed MediaTek chips.

2015 is supposed to witness roughly 350 million Indians accessing the web on their mobile gadgets. So it makes sense for network providers to be scrambling to ink deals with manufacturers in order to gain a good chunk of data-hungry customers. Micromax and MTS were seen shaking hands over the Canvas Blaze release not too long ago.

By offering tempting data plans along with Micromax MediaTek devices, Aircel stands the change of getting a bigger audience. And gathering together more subscribers with a taste for data is the only way it’ll be able to stand up to rivals.
