Bike couple from viral image on social media slapped with a fine by the Goa police

Swift actions like these are rarely observed, but the Goa police has managed to perform very speedy disposal of penalty to the couple from a viral image that was spread across social channels in India a few days ago. The picture clearly showed the duo riding a bike with the woman lying down on the fuel tank with her legs wrapped around the man’s torso.

Apart from the fact that both of them are not wearing any helmets, there is also an implication of indecent public behavior as the image is seemingly indicating that the man isn’t wearing any pants. Taking clues from the photograph, the Goa police managed to track the couple down, and fined them Rs 1000 under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

From the image, it’s clearly visible that the picture was clicked on NH-17, and those living in Goa will easily identify the location to be the Mondovi Bridge. Apart from this information, the police also gathered from the picture, the registration number of the Hero Honda Splendour bike which the couple was riding.

Since the motorcycle has a yellow number plate, it’s obvious that it has been rented. Owing to this information, the Goa police was able to reach the person from whom the bike had been rented and after this, it was easy for them to find out where the couple was staying.

This duo had apparently come from Madhya Pradesh for a vacation, and has indeed managed to scrape through since there were no other bookings accompanying their mere Rs 1000 fine. Be it through Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp or Reddit, the concerned image had gotten people from all over India talking about it.

It’s hence safe to say that social media has once again helped law and order authorities in India to book wrongdoers.
