BlackBerry London running BBX OS breaks cover

BlackBerry London

A picture of the upcoming BlackBerry London smartphone has made its way to the web. This is said to be the first handset to run on the recently launched BlackBerry BBX OS. Rumors abound that it has replaced the BlackBerry Colt which bore a strong resemblance to the PlayBook and was scheduled to be the first RIM QNX-based device in the market.

In the first ever picture of the BlackBerry phone that was acquired by The Verge, the smartphone is said to look very similar in terms of form factor to the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981, though we really can’t vouch for this opinion. Featuring a sharp and stylish exterior, it is believed to be powered by a 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual core CPU.

The RIM smartphone appears to be quite a slim device and apparently sports a 2MP front snapper as well as an 8MP rear facing camera. It supposedly possesses 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal memory. Following the announcement of the next generation BlackBerry software platform, the BBX, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the arrival of the first device to feature it.

The BBX OS was disclosed at the BlackBerry DevCon Americas 2011 that was held in San Francisco last month. Claiming to bring about powerful real-time mobile experiences, the system will be integrated with the new BlackBerry Cascades UI framework to deliver advanced graphics and ‘Super App’ capabilities. These features will facilitate various improved functionalities such as deep integration between apps, always-on Push services and the BBM social platform.

The Verge states that the mysterious BlackBerry London is most likely to be available by June next year. Whether this picture is the real thing or a dummy version is not confirmed and this could, in all probability, turn out to just be a concept design instead of a final one.
