AT&T organizes Hackathons for software developers

AT&T Logo AT&T is scheduled to host a series of day long events across USA called ‘Hackathons’ specially for software developers to come up with and present their new ideas of creating novel apps. The events will be conducted in certain cities so as to gather experienced coders and enable them to learn about the latest innovations in the tech world as well as develop unique mobile applications.

If any innovative and interesting apps emerge, they would be provided to AT&T customers soon after these events. These ‘Hackathon’ events appear to be a good opportunity for coders to collaborate and exchange ideas regarding development of new apps.

John Donovan, AT&T Chief Technology Officer said, “We’re committed to engaging with developers worldwide to deliver a new wave of innovative, powerful apps to our customers that leverage the deep capabilities of the AT&T network. These events will complement existing AT&T Developer Program efforts to provide tools and opportunities for developers so that they can quickly and easily get from an initial concept to an app available to our mobile customers in record time. We’re looking forward to the ideas that come out of these sessions.”

AT&T recently partnered with Apigee, a company which creates application programming interface (API) management tools. The partnership hopes to provide coders access to AT&T’s network-based services like messaging, speech, payment and location in the near future. The two companies also want to provide them with a platform to create ingenious apps which will improve their users’ mobile experience.

“Cultivating an active and vibrant developer community with easy access to APIs is key to success in the ‘appiverse. AT&T has been extremely forward-thinking and is moving aggressively to create a new breed of tightly integrated AT&T apps,” stated Chet Kapoor, Apigee CEO.

API incorporated apps make use of the AT&T network for service references to more than 2.5 billion a month. This amount is expected to increase as more developers adopt the usage of Apigee tools.

The ‘Hackathon’ events would be held on July 16 at Redmond, Washington, August 6 at San Jose and August 27 at Chicago. More cities would be announced soon too and developers of all skill levels have been invited to participate.
