Yahoo! acquires LookFlow, wishes to improve Flickr’s discovery with it

In a bid to enhance its photo-sharing service Flickr and making it more discoverable, Yahoo! has taken LookFlow under its wing. For those who are not aware, LookFlow is a startup that specializes in developing image recognition technologies.

The company’s LinkedIn profile has revealed that it works on artificial intelligence and strives towards offering an intuitive interface to its product for making it a pleasant experience for users. It also claims that the organization is dedicated towards coming up with a new way to offer assistance to people with the task of finding, exploring, collecting as well as sharing interesting content over the internet.

Moreover, the small organization also believes that Flickr has one of the best collections on the web and it is passionate about developing new technology for making them discoverable, just like LookFlow. And even though Yahoo! has bought the company, its fans need not worry considering that they will soon be able to find it in the upcoming versions of the photo-sharing service.

Yahoo! has been dedicated to adding new products and services to its existing collection and even getting rid of those which are unable to generate revenue or in which users have lost interest. Only recently, the conglomerate shut down the acquired search engine Altavista for good. Yahoo Citizen Sport, Axis and Browser Plus were some of the other services that have been shut down, probably in order to redirect its sources towards other thriving applications and new ones.

As of now, we have no idea as to what Yahoo! is planning to do with LookFlow, but we are sure we won’t have to wait for very long to know more about it.
