Verizon Wireless to offer eco-friendly Samsung Intensity II

Few days back, Samsung ringed bells by launching its Behold 2 handset for avid mobile enthusiasts. Now, the company again entices users with its next offer, the Intensity II through Verizon Wireless. Partly designed with recycled plastic, this handset exerts an eco-friendly slant.

The exterior battery cover of the phone is extracted from 35 percent post-consumer material which is recycled plastic obtained from water bottles or other recycled polycarbonate objects. The phone boasts of a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard with external numeric keypad. Users can click images with the 1.3MP infrared camera which features night vision, series and divided shot modes, color effects including normal, black and white, antique, negative, aqua and green.

Along with 2.2-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) screen, the device also features voice commands and advanced speech recognition. It also comprises the Bluetooth technology that supports headset, hands free, stereo, access to phonebook, basic imaging, object push for vCard and vCalendar, and serial port. With built-in music player and microSD card slot, users can expand the memory up to 32GB.

Jim Gowen, chief sustainability officer for Verizon, remarked, “We’re excited about the Intensity II launch because a major part of Verizon’s sustainability strategy is providing products that utilize post-consumer materials.”

Users can experience a chain of messaging options like text, picture and voice, and even send texts through Mobile IM, Mobile Chat, Mobile Email and Mobile Web. With the Social Beat application, users can access Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, email, content feeds and instant messaging on a single screen. The phone features VZ Navigation capabilities which guide users with turn-by-turn directions.

Mobile aficionados can download games, ringtones, wallpapers, location-based services and more through the Media Centre. The phone supports an array of Verizon Wireless services like VCast Music with Rhapsody, VCast Song ID and VZW Tones. It also includes one-touch contact list to access the phonebook for frequently accessed contacts. Additionally, the device is also packed with some basic features like calendar, calculator with currency converter, alarm clock, world clock and stop watch.

The packaging of the handset is partially made from recycled paper and partially printed with soy ink that composes less material to dispose or recycle and less weight for shipping. It also exerts an eco-calculator that tracks the car’s fuel mileage, efficiency and approximate amount of carbon dioxide discharged, alongside a calendar and ringtones. The outer box and Quick reference guide is crafted with 60 percent and 20 percent recycled paper respectively. The handset comes packed with a high efficiency charger that warns users as soon as the battery is completely powered and is available in deep gray and metallic blue colors.

Mobile enthusiasts can purchase the Samsung Intensity II at a price of $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new a 2 year customer agreement from the Verizon Wireless Communications store. Users can donate their old mobile phones to the Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine cell phone recycling and refurbishing program by simply dropping off or mailing them.
