Sprint’s new protection app to safeguard lost smartphones

With this new app, people no longer need to lose their hearts along with their precious handsets. To assuage problems related to theft or misplacement of mobile devices, Sprint has announced its new application dubbed Total Equipment Protection for users to track down and shield lost smartphones.

With Sprint’s Total Equipment Protection app people can trace a lost device by raising an alarm on the smartphone even if it is on silent mode or perform a real time search using GPS technology. Additionally, the missing handset’s location history can be viewed on a map through a web interface. Each time the device’s location is inquired using the web interface, an SMS is directed to it stating that it has been located.

“Anyone who has lost a phone knows that their personal information is possibly just as vulnerable as if their computer was hacked,” shared John Carney, senior vice president of consumer marketing for Sprint. “Now, Sprint customers have peace of mind knowing that their personal and private information is safe. TEP and this accompanying application is a safeguard for customers who want protection from not only loss, but misuse and unauthorized access.”

For heightened security against grave misuse, the missing the gadget can also be remotely locked and have all its address book contacts erased. With the help of the app, users will also be able to manage, restore and take a back up of deleted contacts. It will work on BlackBerry handsets and all devices running on the Android platform. This protection app is accessible to customers who subscribe to Sprint’s Total Equipment Protection (TEP) plan.

The Total Equipment Protection app can be downloaded from Sprint’s official website free of cost as a part of the TEP plan.
