Samsung ChatOn messaging app released for the Android Market

Not long after the world greeted iMessage, Android has been gifted with a similar service, Samsung ChatOn.The news about its development has been doing rounds for more than a month now.

This is a cross platform service for free communication by Samsung which had been made available for bada devices as a pre-loaded version. Other than this, it supports Android, Samsung feature phones and it is soon expected to be compatible with iOS and BlackBerry OS as well. Even though this application is best viewed at 480 x 800p WVGA resolutions, it can be used with screens of other resolutions as well.

ChatOn enables users to connect with friends and family in a group by the means of videos, text, images and even hand-written notes. This interaction can occur irrespective of the mobile platform. The service also allows content sharing between mobile and PC, through web client. It will gradually roll out across 120 countries in about 62 languages.

It offers features like Interaction Rank, Animation Message and Trunk. With the Interaction Rank feature, consumes can check the frequency of communication with all their friends and comment on their profile pages. On the other hand, the Animation Message service allows doodling on an image or adding audio to it, which can then be shared with buddies. Trunk acts like an auto-generated content sharing box where all conversations can be viewed.

Samsung ChatOn can be downloaded from the Android Market. It is compatible with Froyo 2.2 and Gingerbread 2.3.3.
