Samsung Galaxy Y arrives in the UK through Vodafone

The Samsung Galaxy Y is now officially available in the UK via Vodafone. The smartphone has been named as per Samsung’s new naming strategy wherein the ‘Y’ stands for youth. It aims to cater to the younger population and operates on Android Gingerbread.

Weighing 97g, this new handset is embedded with a 3-inch 240 x 320p resolution LCD capacitive touchscreen display and offers 160MB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB through the embedded microSD card slot. It is capable of supporting various connectivity options such as Bluetooth, GPS, 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi. Powered by a 1200mAh battery, the device provides a standby and a talk time of up to 350 and 5 hours, respectively on 3G.

Measuring 104mm x 58mm x 11.5mm, the Galaxy Y possesses a 2MP camera with 4x zoom and picture selection modes like panorama and smile shots. Users can organize various icons and access apps through the shortcuts provided by the smartphone’s various homescreens.

Running on a 832MHz CPU, this latest Samsung device also offers users access to more than 2,50,000 apps through the Android Market. It comes equipped with the Swype function and a QWERTY keypad for making typing and input of data an easier task. Furthermore, it claims to offer a smooth browsing experience with the integrated TouchWiz user interface.
