Readius Phone with Foldable Display announced by Polymer Vision

Polymer Vision's Readius Foldable Mobile Phone

A Dutch company called Polymer Vision has come out with a very unique mobile phone called the Readius. A very special feature seems to be the phone’s display, which is roughly the size of two business cards, and fold up when not in use!

The display of the Readius measures around 5-inches and happens to be the world’s first screen that folds out, allowing the users to read news, browse the web, blog it out or even send emails. After his/her work is done, the screen folds back together.

The whole mobile phone is quite small as well, as it can perfectly fit into one’s pocket.

Here are the salient features of the Readius Mobile Phone:

  • 5-inch display
  • 3G Connectivity
  • e-Reader capability
  • Weighs just 115g
  • USB 2.0 connectivity
  • Bluetooth
  • Micro SD slot
  • 30 hours reading time with just a single charge
  • This mobile phone makes for a very good e-Reader and can be very well compared to Amazon’s revolutionary Kindle Book Reader. The Readius handset sports an electronic paper screen that has the ability to display black and white text and images without light reflecting off, thereby reducing eye strain.

The Readius mobile phone also allows users to connect to the Internet via 3G network that offers a high data speed. You will also be able to set up email accounts, browse through news sources, podcasts, audio books and receive blog feeds and just about anything you can think of doing on the Internet.

According to Karl McGoldrick, chief executive of Polymer vision, “I see these devices with 50 buttons on them. We have eight.” He also added that in the near future Polymer Vision also plans to come out with models that have a keypad.

You can expect to get your hands on this device by mid-2008.
