Nokia, the leading telecommunications company in India, announced the launch of two new entry-level phones today in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India.

Nokia 2600 Classic and Nokia 1209 are aimed at consumers seeking a varying combination of features, design and value and come with attractive innovations meant for ‘personalization’ and ‘phone sharing’.

The highlight of Nokia 2600 is that it offers exchangeable covers for mobile personalization while Nokia 1209 provides multiple phone books exclusively for phone sharing.

“Nokia is consistently working towards understanding consumer needs and aspirations and bringing out devices that fulfill these requirements,” says Devinder Kishore Director, Marketing, Nokia India.

A trend of ‘phone sharing’ has been noticed in South Asia after feedbacks from respondents revealed that almost 50% of Indians and Pakistanis and 30% of Vietnamese would like to or they do share their phones with family and friends. The statistics have been determined as a contrasting one in comparison with consumer behaviour in ‘mature markets’.

“Phone sharing is a logical trend – more and more families are purchasing a mobile phone for the entire family to use, not just the head of the household. In addition, digital cameras are quickly becoming more popular in these markets, and as such taking and sharing digital images is becoming more common,” adds Kishore. “In response, Nokia has developed a number of innovative features like the multiple phonebook to support phone sharing, and we have added technologies like Bluetooth to some models to make transferring images and ringtones easy and affordable.”

The Nokia 2600 and Nokia 1209 are priced at Rs. 3539 and Rs. 1789 respectively.
