Micromax Canvas 4 white variant leak looks fake

A white colored variant of the Micromax Canvas 4 has been leaked online, and we’re going to tell you why it doesn’t look extremely convincing. Micromax has done very well with its handset launches in India and the interest in all this pre-release publicity is just a mark of the reputation the brand has built for itself in India.

The latest buzz is about a photo of the Micromax Canvas 4 colored in white. The @MMXNewscaster Twitter account is the source of this ‘leak’ which shows the device from three different angles. The image appears to be press shots of the smartphone at first glance. It says very little about the device apart from the fact that all the main buttons are exactly where we’d expect them to be.

In the picture, the Micromax Canvas 4 seems to sport the volume controls on its left edge and the power button on its right. There’s only one spec which has been confirmed by official teasers of the phone – a 13MP camera on the back panel. There were also speculations about an octo core chip and a heavy duty battery powering it.

But these two details are part of some good old guesswork based on the videos. Eight devices merging to form one could just have been a creative video and graphics team at play, for all we know. The accompanying ‘Can life be endless’ tagline for the Micromax Canvas 4 may be hinting at a long lasting battery though.

So why are we not convinced by the image of a white Micromax Canvas 4? The first picture in this article is from a Facebook post by the company. Notice the physical button below the touchscreen? The low quality image that @MMXNewscaster has laid out shows a white device with no button below the display.

Though capacitive buttons have been part of the series’ tradition, we’re wondering if the Facebook image is that of the forthcoming phone or just a random Android one. The Twitter account we’ve mentioned does have a track record of leaks worth speaking of, at the same time.

We’ll know more when the company starts accepting pre-orders for the Canvas 4 starting from June 28. Since the one advantage the brand has over bigger players like Samsung, HTC or Sony is the wallet-friendly prices at which its handsets are tagged, we may be looking at a sub-Rs 20,000 gadget.

Here’s what we know about the specifications of the smartphone at present:

– It has a 13MP rear camera
– Android Jelly Bean is most likely to be the OS of choice here
– The teaser video we’ve posted above hints at an octo core processor
