Previously, we had reported that the Apple iPad Air would be launched in India on Dec 7 without giving out the release date of the iPad mini with Retina display. Turns out that both new tablets will hit the market on the said day and we have the prices too.
The Wi-Fi flavored iPad Air and iPad mini Retina will cost Rs 35,900 and Rs 28,900 for the 16GB capacity. For some reason, distributors Ingram Micro and Redington, haven’t given out the prices of the 32GB, 64GB ans 128GB versions. Unofficial details are all we’re hearing about the cellular versions too.
iPad Air specifications:
The iPad Air is obviously thinner and lighter than the last generation one, because that’s what Apple does best. It embeds the 64-bit A7 chip that’s got everyone in a tizzy, not to mention the M7 motion coprocessor too. The tablet has a 9.7-inch Retina display, 1.2MP FaceTime webcam and 5MP iSight camera.
iPad mini with Retina display features:
This mini slate has a 7.9-inch Retina screen nailed across its front and also sports the same A7 chipset with the M7 motion coprocessor. Its rear panel shows off a 5MP iSight lens and sitting above the display is a 2.1MP FaceTime camera. Just like the iPad Air, it also runs on iOS 7.
Considering that the higher capacity iPad Air and iPad mini Retina are likely to carry ridiculously high prices, it’s possible that any variant beyond 32GB won’t land in India at all. Of course, this could change if sellers are willing to vend them on installment plans like they did with the iPhone 5S.
