The Guitar Hero III Mobile is a chartbuster in the gaming scenario in the US. Hands-On Mobile, Inc. announced that the mobile game was a bestseller in the US on Verizon Wireless’ mobiles in the first quarter of 2008.
A record of 1 million downloads including monthly subscriptions has been reported across all wireless service providers although initially the mobile was exclusively launched on Verizon Wireless’ phones. Guitar Hero III Mobile has been reported to be one of the highest and fastest selling games.
“Verizon Wireless customers have shown a tremendous appetite for mobile games – the category is an important part of our strategy to increase data revenue, and marquee titles such as Guitar Hero III help create demand and engage our customers in mobile gameplay,” said Ryan Hughes, vice president of digital media programming for Verizon.
An amazing 2,50,000 songs are played everyday by the game subscribers and the most popular songs happen to be ‘Slow Ride’ (re-record), ‘Mississippi Queen’ (re-record) and ‘Black Magic Woman’ (re-record).
“Fans of the Guitar Hero console games have been very impressed with the title’s translation onto BREW handsets,” said David White, chief executive officer of Hands-On Mobile. “Guitar Hero III Mobile has opened the eyes of a whole new group of consumers to the world of mobile games.”
M:Metrics, a mobile research company explains that although the demand for games in the US has not been very significant, the demand for Guitar Hero III Mobile seems to be changing the complete scene. “Guitar Hero is a recognizable franchise that has already won over consumers with the console version, setting it up for great success on the mobile platform,” said Seamus McAteer, senior analyst, M:Metrics. According to the research firm, there were about 20 million subscribers playing the game in March and the number is still growing.
The popularity that the game will achieve will be noteworthy in June as Hands-On Mobile has announced to release Guitar Hero III Mobile June Song Pack which will enable the subscribers to buy three new songs every month. ‘Stricken’ (original recording), ‘Talk Dirty to Me’ (re-record) and ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ (re-record) are few of the 50 plus songs that will be made available to the song pack users from June 1 onwards. Subscribers will also be able to access 150 unique note charts across all three difficulties (easy, medium and expert). All this will be made available within just a year of the game’s release.
Guitar Mobile III features four authentic guitars and three venues where the players have to hit the numbers on the keypad to match the colored notes appearing on the scroll fret board. To take up the challenge, the players are provided with 15 instantly accessible tracks from the console series.
