Google Voice app rejected by iPhone

iPhone 3GS Google According to TechCrunch, Apple rejected Google’s official Google Voice app when it was submitted for approval six weeks ago. Therefore, it looked like Google had only released the Google Voice app for BlackBerry and Android when this was not the case.

A Google spokesperson spoke to TechCrunch and stated the following. “We work hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users – for example, by taking advantage of advances in mobile browsers.”

TechCrunch believes that the Google Voice app was rejected in part due to AT&T’s influence. Google Voice lets users send free text messages and allows users to make very cheap international calls. Additionally, the concept of phone numbers also becomes meaningless. Therefore, AT&T possibly feels that the Google Voice app poses a threat to it.

Google is now planning to use web apps to get its Google Voice app to the iPhone.
