With mobile phones setting foot in every part of the world, the gadget has been in the news for all reasons from fateful events to mortal afflictions. Recent reports by scientists in Russia claim that over a dozen deaths due to lightning strikes were caused due to cellphones. Apparently culpable for killing bees and fraying our neurons because of the electromagnetic radiation, a constant correlation is being drawn to the use of cellphones and disastrous events.
Leonid Tarkov of the weather observation center FOBOS blaming electronics as the cause of these increased lightning strikes commented, “These things are electromagnetic field carriers That makes them, in essence, conductors. Thunderbolts are frequently attracted to such things, and hits are often connected with a lethal outcome.”
The latest death in Russia occurred just last week and the past two weeks have been witness to more than a dozen Russian deaths due to striking of searing bolts of sky-bound electricity. According to reports, a supposed contemplation is that the direct electromagnetic radiation enveloping these gadgets is the chief cause of the lightning strikes as a small amount of these people were using portable music players or cellphones when they were struck by lighting.
However this distinct bashing of cellphones is fortunately criticized by the scientific community as they believe that cellphones may not be the direct cause of lightning strikes. Most scientists are of the opinion that mobile phone’s electromagnetism cannot attract a lighting strike as the electromagnetic field generated by portable electronics are not amply potent to arrest or steer a substantially large charged lightning bolt. But scientists also affirmed that lightning strikes are more likely to occur around metallic objects.
Still a debatable subject, the undeniable correspondence of cellphones to such disastrous events does not make them a causative agent for the same.
