Qualcomm has expanded its range of SoCs further with the launch of the 4nm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset. If you’re confused, yes, the firm has gone straight to the ‘plus’ branding without launching a ‘non-plus’ version to perhaps demonstrate how much of a leap it is over its predecessor.

As you know, it succeeds the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, which too was built with the 4nm process. Despite that, the new unit delivers a 50 percent boost in performance and a 13 percent improvement in power efficiency.

Qualcomm has equipped it with its Kryo CPU with peak speeds of up to 2.91GHz. It’s of course got a Qualcomm Adreno GPU onboard as well, which is claimed to deliver double the performance compared to the GPU of the Gen 1 variant.

“Today’s launch of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 illustrates our ability to bring some of the most in-demand flagship features to our Snapdragon-7 series – making them accessible to more people,” said Christopher Patrick, Qualcomm’s SVP and GM of mobile handsets.

For photography, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 can support up to 200MP sensors, while also delivering 2x staggered 4K HDR video. The chipset gives manufacturers the opportunity to capture ample data with 18-bit RAW photo capture.

And this chip is also primed to go inside mid-range gaming handsets. Apart from its high-end CPU, it also adopts Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Auto Variable Rate Shading, Volumetric Rendering, and Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX lossless music streaming.

5G support is provided to the chipset by the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF system that’s capable of handling download speeds of up to 4.4Gbps while bringing 5G/4G Dual-Sim Dual Active standby.

Realme and Redmi will be among the first OEMs to adopt the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 for their devices, as per Qualcomm.
