30 percent Snapdeal customers use mobile phones to place orders

A recent study conducted by Snapdeal has revealed that more and more people are using mobile phones to buy stuff from the shopping portal and as many as 30 percent orders are placed through the portable gadgets. The number for mobile users has soared northwards by a great extent in the last one year.

About 12 months ago, merely 3 percent of the total orders received were sent from mobile phones and it has now increased 10 times. The study on the m-commerce or mobile-based transactions trends was carried out by the e-retailer itself and it was stretched out over a period of 6 months.

Apart from this, Snapdeal has revealed a lot of information that says quite a lot about Indians’ online shopping habits. More and more people from the country are opting for the internet-based retailers as on an average, close to 40 million people visit this marketplace. And as far the mobile site is concerned, it hosts about 12 million shoppers every month.

People from the interiors of the country are yet to open up to the idea of online shopping wholeheartedly, but it seems like those from the metropolitan cities have learnt to trust them. This site says that they get maximum visitors from cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai.

However, not many of these customers are comfortable with online transactions as only 25 percent people who log in through their phones make advanced payments. The rest of the 75 percent users choose cash on delivery. And about 20 percent people come through mobile ads, the rest of the 80 percent of traffic is purely organic.

Items most preferred by users on Snapdeal include men’s and women’s apparels, men’s footwear, mobile phones, memory cards and pen drives.
