Yureka Plus with 5.5-inch full HD screen launched for Rs 9999, only via Amazon

After numerous hints and videos playing up its launch, the Yu Yureka Plus has been announced and will retail at Rs 9999 through the company’s tried-and-tested flash sale model. Registrations begin today on Amazon India, with the phone selling at 12pm on July 24.

The Yu Yureka Plus is a successor to the earlier iteration of the handset which was released in January 2015 and priced at Rs 8999. The Rs 1000 difference is accounted for by a full HD screen, as opposed to the previous 720p, and a better rear camera of the same resolution, but equipped with a 5-element Largan Blue lens and Sony IMX214 sensor.

The 4G-enabled dual-SIM Yureka Plus is otherwise the same device as before. Its display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and measures 5.5 inches. Under the hood, a 2500mAh battery with standby time of 210 hours and a 64-bit 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor power the phone. Memory capabilities consist of 16GB of ROM and 2GB of RAM.

The Yureka Plus will battle it out with another popular device sold via flash sales – the K3 Note. The Lenovo handset costs the same and has identical features except for a 1.7GHz 64-bit octa-core MediaTek SoC and a 3000mAh battery. The first Yureka was possibly losing ground to the K3 Note because it didn’t have a 1080p screen, so its updated version might have been released as a response to that.

It’s disappointing that the promos for the Yu Yureka Plus promised a rugged phone that could withstand drops, but the model released doesn’t have any particularly tough characteristics. It comes across as a normal phone that could probably take on a couple of scratches.
