Yu Yureka, Yureka Plus start getting Cyanogen 12.1 update

After months of waiting, Yu Yureka and Yureka Plus users will finally start receiving version 12.1 of the Cyanogen OS. The rollout was made official by the brand’s CEO Rahul Sharma in a forum post on the company’s website.

Sharma apologized for the delay, explaining the Micromax-owned manufacturer was releasing Cyanogen 12.1 for the Yu Yureka and Yureka Plus handsets after testing out 3 beta builds and awaiting final positive feedback. He asserts the longer wait time was required in order to output something concrete and worth the wait.

The upgrade to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based Cyanogen 12.1 is set to be beamed out in phases OTA (over-the-air) within the next 2 weeks. Consumers will get a notification when it arrives on their phone. The update supposedly enhances the performance and thermal control of the Yureka and Yureka Plus. It additionally comes with a LiveDisplay feature to automatically adjust the screen brightness based on the surrounding environment.

There’s also a redesigned launcher, with the App Drawer and Folders now suited for one-handed access. Yu consumers can share their availability and schedule appointments through the Boxer email app, which provides better integration between calendar and email functions. The new OS has also added a number of codecs for audio and video playback and has updated AudioFX’s UI to make it consistent across all devices.

Unexpectedly, the upgrade does not come with the highly-touted Truecaller and Truedialer app integration that was announced for Cyanogen this year. In the same post, Sharma confirmed the next smartphone to get version 12.1 of the OS will be the Yu Yuphoria. It’s set to receive the software after the rollout for the Yureka and Yureka Plus ends.
