YotaPhone with its unique dual display setup released in India for Rs 23499

The YotaPhone smartphone which sports a screen on the front and one on the rear, has finally been launched in India after being leaked and then teased by Flipkart who is the exclusive seller of the handset. The e-commerce website has joined hands with Jumbo Electronics from the UAE to bring the interesting device to the country.

The only downside here is that the YotaPhone’s price is way more than what we expected it to be. For a mid-range device, its Rs 23499 retail tag is quite a hefty one, especially after you see what hardware this handset has to offer.

Like we mentioned above, the phone has two screens – a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720p IPS LCD panel on the front and a 4.3-inch 640 x 360p electronic paper display which remains in an always-on state, on the rear. The beauty of the device is that you can access the Android UI as usual from the color screen and keep the always-on panel for quickly checking up on things like notifications, updates from social networks and more.

Disappointment may kick in when you learn that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean comes pre-loaded and there’s no word about an update to a newer version of the OS. And to power up the phone, the company has thrown in a 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon 400 SOC along with 2GB RAM.

YotaPhone specs at a glance:

– OS: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
– Display: 4.3-inch 720p HD IPS front, 640 x 360p EPD rear
– Processor: 1.7GHz dual core Krait (Snapdragon 400)

– Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, HSPA+

The dual-screen YotaPhone handset will go on sale through Flipkart starting from tomorrow, and it should be available in black and white color options.
