Yahoo! discontinues 10 mobile apps

Yahoo! Apps

With innumerable candidates being churned out every day, the applications scenario has tough competition and Yahoo! recently confirmed the closing down of 10 mobile apps.

The list of applications which are scheduled to be axed include Yahoo! Meme for iPad and iPhone, Yahoo! Answers for Android, Yahoo! Mim for iPad, Yahoo! AppSpot for Android and iPhone, Yahoo! Deals for iPhone as well as Yahoo! Finance for BlackBerry. Also figuring on the hit list are apps like Yahoo! Movies for Android, Yahoo! News for Android, Yahoo! Shopping for iPhone and Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search for iPad and iPhone.

A post on the official Yahoo! mobile blog states that this decision was taken by the company after much thought and in order to clear out room for fresh apps and products. These decommissioned applications are expected to make way for new Yahoo! mobile tools that are on the radar for 2012.

The internet giant aims to fill this gap left by the terminated apps with more interesting applications such as IntoNow for TV and Livestand. Yahoo! plans to incorporate ‘disruptive technology,’ which is touted to change the mobile device arena, in its already widely used tool options like Yahoo! Mail, Messenger, Sportacular and Flickr.

Probably as a form of compensation, the Yahoo! mobile blog states that the best features of AppSpot and Sketch-a-Search have been integrated into the Yahoo! Search application to satisfy frequent users of the discontinued mobile apps.
