Xiaomi is launching a new Mi Protect insurance service in India for smartphones and tablets purchased via its official website. The scheme is valid for a year and offers protection for a number of scenarios, such as liquid damage or theft.
Xiaomi is partnering with OneAssist for the Mi Protect service. Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime users will have to pay Rs 275 for it, while Mi 4i 16GB, Mi 4 16GB and Mi Pad consumers are supposed to hand over Rs 499. The scheme includes a free pick-up and drop for devices in need of repair and a free 2nd servicing within 1 year of activation.
Mi Protect allows customers to block their SIM card through a call from any location in the world in case their device gets stolen. The insurance program also comes with a SIM misuse cover of up to Rs 3000. Users who opt for the service additionally get 1TB of Docusafe online cloud storage.
New device buyers can utilize a free smartphone assistance service for remote fixing of the problems they face. The offering guides them through various procedures such as how to configure emails, manage settings like languages or fonts, and handle the device better in terms of usage.

To sign up, Xiaomi users must call the OneAssist customer care number at either 1800 407 333 333, 1800 123 3330 or 0 8080 333 333. Insured individuals have to call the same service to get their device repaired. A Mi Protect team is supposed to check out the damage and will start the claims process if everything is confirmed to be in order.
