Xiaomi Mi 5X set to hit India in September

The Xiaomi Mi 5X might land in India in September, about 2 months after it made its debut in China. Xiaomi has begun teasing that it’s planning to launch a dual-camera smartphone in the nation and the aforementioned handset is being pegged as the most likely candidate.

The mystery began when Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Kumar Jain posted a tweet where he talked abut how excited he was about releasing the company’s first dual-camera phone in the country. He then stated that it was coming next month and asked fans to guess which model he was talking about.

Interestingly, Jain also posted a photo of himself that focused on him and blurred out the background. This is a common effect in most twin-lens modules. He didn’t expressly state this, but it seems quite obvious that it was taken from the mystery Xiaomi device being hyped.

The two most likely phones which could come out in September are the Mi 6 and Mi 5X. Both offer the same 12MP dual rear camera setup that features a wide-angle + telephoto lens. The former is the brand’s flagship phone and the latter is a mid-range offering.

The Mi 6 might not make it to India though. A previous report had alleged that Xiaomi wasn’t planning on bringing the handset here because of the Mi 5’s average performance and its one-flagship-a-year policy. That leaves out the affordable Mi 5X. It carries a CNY 1499 (roughly Rs 14230) price tag in China.
