Xiaomi Mi 5 launched, making its way to India soon

The Xiaomi Mi 5 has finally been outed, taking on the mantle of being the brand’s flagship phone nearly 2 years after the launch of the Mi 4. The company has showered it with a number of attractive features, especially focusing on its photography abilities.

There are 3 versions of the Xiaomi Mi 5 up for grabs. The two 3D glass models offer a 3GB/32GB and 3GB/64GB combination and are priced at CNY 1999 (about Rs 21000) and CNY 2299 (roughly Rs 24000), respectively. The 3D ceramic Pro variant ships with a 4GB/128GB configuration and costs CNY 2999 (about Rs 31500).

The ceramic back cover of the Mi 5 Pro is made out of high-grade zirconium which the manufacturer asserts feels like marble without the weight. It even compared the phone to the iPhone 6S, claiming the phone is 14g lighter than the Apple handset. It’s introduced a number of new features for the offering such as a 4-axis OIS and Beautify for videos.

Check out the specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 5:

– Display: 5.15-inch IPS, 1080 x 1920 pixels

Xiaomi claims the first is an entirely new kind of optical image stabilization, guaranteeing high-quality snaps from the phone’s 16MP shooter even in low-light or shaky situations. The feature is accompanied by PDAF, dual-tone LED flash, 4K recording, and DTI (deep trench isolation) technology which makes sure light leaks are minimized for richer colors.

As for the Beautify tool, the Mi 5 will apparently be able to improve face quality in real-time during video calls. Users can smooth their skin, whiten their face and correct the backlight while using this feature. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is set hit China on March 1. The brand’s VP Hugo Barra has confirmed that it’ll land in India soon after.
