Xiaomi has added two new items to its growing list of products, unveiling the Mi Mousepad and Mi Metal Mousepad on its website yesterday. The items are only available on its official page and are priced at Rs 269 and Rs 649, respectively.
The Mi Mousepad and Mi Metal Mousepad are larger than most, easily able to contain a mouse and a compact keyboard upon their surfaces. They’re expensive compared to other pads in the market, signalling a break from Xiaomi’s brand of selling premium products at budget values.
The Mi Mousepad is made up of flexible rubber and is available in black. It has a non-slip base that stops it from sliding around. The pad has dimensions of 80 x 40cm and is supposedly designed in such a way to prevent its shape from curling or warping.

The Mi Metal Mousepad is composed of aluminium and comes in silver only. There appears to be two sizes, the large measuring 330 x 240x 3mm and the small coming in at 240 x 180 x 3mm. Only the bigger one can be bought for now and there aren’t any details about the cost of the smaller model.
Xiaomi asserts the metal product goes through a 5-step process during its manufacture, namely, punch-pressing, sandblasting, oxidation, polishing and laser-cutting. Salt-spraying as well as temperature and humidity testing is done to ensure resistance to corrosion, sweat and flaking.
The company claims the silicone rubber base of the Mi Metal Mousepad has been tear-tested with a 3kg load for 1 minute to guarantee a strong resistance to slipping. Users may hear a friction sound while using the pad due to the sand-blasting process it underwent.
The Mi Mousepad and Mi Metal Mousepad are ordinary products compared to the string of smart devices Xiaomi has been launching recently, such as a smart shoe and a TV. Devoted fans might get excited for them but it’ll be a tough sell to people satisfied with less costly options.
