Wyse PocketCloud App revealed for Android

Wyse PocketCloud App

Previously, when the Wyse PocketCloud public beta was unveiled, we had reported about it coming to the Android Market. Now the complete Wyse PocketCloud app for Android has been launched by the company at the VMworld 2010 Conference. The software will be available on display at the conference. Initially released for the Apple devices, it now makes its way to the Android Market.

This remote desktop application allows users to access their desktop and files. Moreover, they can even check out apps on any virtualized or physical infrastructure, with the help of several protocol options. This software is capable of amalgamating into pre-existing VMware View environment, thus negating the need of a software installation or special setup. The offering renders international keyboard support for accented characters as well as switches where users can turn on or off the window by simply dragging, wallpapers and themes.

“Remote desktop access has long been an essential component of IT strategy,” stated Vittorio Viarengo, vice president, End User Computing Products, VMware. “With the introduction of PocketCloud for Android phones, in addition to the apps already available for the iPhone and iPad, Wyse has teamed with VMware View to make remote access an anytime/anywhere proposition.”

Wyse PocketCloud offers mobile aficionados the ability to secure mobile display. Additionally, it provides control of virtual or physical instances of Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 7, Remote Desktop Services, Windows Vista and Terminal Services functions in Windows Server products. It endows VNC support for Android handset owners to connect with Home editions of Windows or Macs. This solution lets them use superior multi-touch gestures including pinch to zoom.

As the progress of virtualization has helped make cloud computing possible, the opportunities for the mobile user are nearly limitless,” stated Daniel Barreto, GM, Mobile Cloud Business Unit at Wyse. “With the introduction of Wyse PocketCloud for Android we enable a whole new group of users to gain the benefits of cloud client computing.”

The Wyse Exclusive RDP 7 Engine offers support for Remote Desktop Services along with Microsoft Terminal Services. The paid version renders support to VMware View and sound support for 3G & Wi-Fi. With the Auto Discovery functionality the solution empowers users with effortless access to their environments using minimal setup.

The Android Wyse PocketCloud application is retailing at a promotional price of $14.99. It also can be procured as a free version, but will not include all the features. They both can be obtained from the Android Market.
