Wipro and Agnik ink deal over connected car services

As the new Wipro and Agnik deal clearly imply, businesses are paying more and more attention to in-vehicle infotainment and connected car services. Before this, another big name, Samsung, was seen shaking hands with Tata Motors in India over the former’s Drive Link technology. The last mentioned delivers in-car navigation support and also lets users stream music, browse the web, deal with calls and so on.

Considering that India’s automobile industry is the seventh largest in the world, it makes sense for technology companies to be looking in this direction. This trend is being observed in other parts of the world too. Today Twitter was on fire with tweets speculating whether Apple is interested in buying electric car company, Tesla, or simply cutting a similar connected services deal with the brand.

Agnik is a well known name in big data analytics. Wipro is India’s third largest IT company. It is also a part of Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an organization interested in having smartphone and in-vehicle connectivity as well as other relevant technologies flying high into the future. The specifics of the deal in question hasn’t been explained.

“Wipro is excited to work with Agnik and bring an innovative connected car solution to the automotive industry and aftermarket businesses,” declared Wipro’s Srinivas Rao.

But as far as we can see, the Wipro-Agnik partnership will help automobile companies better study vehicle performance, understand consumers and their needs, get an insight into various use-cases such as warranty management, geo-spatial analytics, actuarial analysis for insurance and so on.
