WhatsApp gets voicemail, call back features

WhatsApp is finally moving one step closer to providing users with a Call Back and Voicemail option in the application. The two features were first leaked a few months ago and have now become available to beta users of the app.

WhatsApp beta version 2.16.189 is currently accessible for Android devices via Google Play’s beta testing program for the app. You can also choose to download it via APK Mirror. Once updated, you’ll be presented with a screen which says Call declined alongside three options when someone doesn’t pick up your call namely Cancel, Call back and Record voice message.

According to Phone Radar, Cancel dismisses the screen and Call back lets you ring the contact again, just like how redial works in most phones. Finally, the WhatsApp’s voicemail option allows you to record an audio message from within that interface itself, instead of going through the hassle of exiting the screen and sending one separately.

Your friend will see the voicemail as a regular voice message in the conversation window. There’s no indication yet of when exactly these new features will be making their way to an official release. Another fresh addition currently accessible only in WhatsApp’s beta app is the new FixedSys font.

To try it out, all you have to do is place the grave accent (`) three times before and after a word or sentence. Doing so instantly transforms the standard WhatsApp font to one which is spaced out and wider. It’s commonly used among developers to write code in.
