Vodafone will roll out 4G services in Delhi NCR beginning from December

Vodafone India is set to kick-start its 4G services in the Delhi NCR region by December this year, with key corridors of the area being part of the first wave of the high-speed network’s launch. The city will be joined by Mumbai and Kerala as the first few places to have access to the mobile operator’s next generation network.

In a statement, Vodafone said the 4G rollout will take place in a phased manner across the circle. Apoorva Mehrotra, the brand’s Business Head in Delhi and NCR, said the telecom player is using the 1800MHz band to deploy the offering. The region contributes to around 30% of the brand’s data revenues, making it one of the topmost internet markets for the provider.

According to Vodafone, Delhi and NCR are additionally supposed to grow at a rate of 50% year-one-year. It’s apparently invested nearly Rs 350 crores to upgrade its current voice and data infrastructure in the metro. The operator has further set up 550 mobile tower sites within the region over the past 6 months. It’s followed a similar strategy for Mumbai and Kerala.

UK-based Vodafone claims to have sunk roughly Rs 500 crores and built approximately 1000 new cell towers in the former. The company has roughly 5300 sites in the latter at present and has invested Rs 350 crores to upgrade the system over there. Overall, it’s constructed 23000 towers in the 2014 – 15 time period, which brings its total to 131000 sites.

Vodafone India is currently the number 2 telecom company in India. It’ll be competing with Reliance Jio and Airtel come December. The first is also launching its commercial pan-India 4G network that month, while the second has already commenced the service in 300 towns across India.
