Vodafone kickstarts 4G network in Delhi-NCR

Vodafone India has started its 4G platform in Gurgaon, with plans to roll out the high-speed service across the Delhi-NCR region in a phased manner over the course of the next few months. Mumbai and Bengaluru are next in line to begin receiving the network.

So far, Vodafone has spread its 4G services in Kerala, Karnataka and Kolkata. Like these metros, Delhi-NCR residents can also take advantage of a free LTE SIM upgrade offer. The brand is even offering to home-deliver the SIMs to customers if they request it before 4 pm. The telecom operator’s packs start at Rs 11 for 35MB of LTE data and go up to Rs 2499 for 20GB.

Vodafone is looking to further entice subscribers by letting them have access to 3 months of free movies, music and TV through its Play platform. It’s additionally seeking to attract global travelers by guaranteeing them 4G international roaming in the UK, Spain, the Netherlands and Romania.

According to PTI, Vodafone has sunk over Rs 800 crore in the Delhi-NCR region up until the current financial year up to December. It’s partnered with Huawei for its 4G infrastructure in the city. The company currently has the rights to only 5 circles in India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka, Kerala and Kolkata.

When asked whether Vodafone was interested in expanding its 4G reach through spectrum trading and sharing, the company’s Chief Operating Officer Naveen Chopra said the player’s plan of action for now was to focus on the 5 circles it has a presence in. He also claimed that the initial response to its LTE network in Karnataka, Kolkata and Kerala was positive and encouraging.
